A great effort by Vince on this intricate page of Kirby pencils.
If only Carmine had allowed Wood to ink New Gods and left Vince on the inks for the rest of the line, I think Kirby would have had the success he was looking for post-Stan.

Oh, Man, I remember reading this when it came out, and loving it!
Didn't get the subtext as a kid, but it resonated anyways.
Love Colletta's inks, and in some ways, prefer him to Royer.
Of course, Wood on inks would have been a dream!

Jack drew extremely fast during these DC days because Carmine gave him a contract that was brutally tough in exchange for being writer and editor. So Jack needed a competent inker that could interpret Jack's lines correctly and enhance the drawing. Royer never did that. Vince had the ability to choose the best lines and enhance the drawing, leaving out the unnecessary. Wood, of course, would apply his own unique line and shading. See the Wood inked Challengers of the Unknown for examples of Wood's brilliant inking over Kirby.
So the point is that inking is important. Sinnott always fixed Jack's drawings : straightened eyes, fixed perspective issues, developed detail in buildings, concrete, and rock, and fixed Jack's noses. At the end, Jack would just draw lines for noses. Sinnott would fix them. So would Vince and Wood. But not Royer.
So this nonsense that Jack had lost it toward the end is just that : nonsense. He needed competent inkers/finishers, IMHO.
So I think this beautiful brunette female face is proof of my assertions. A beautiful female face from the great Kirby !

Coletta never erased a female face is my conjecture - he was a ladies' man in every sense!

Completely agree !!
That's why I always thought that Vince would be a great inker for Don Heck, another great ladies' man....
