A long wait, but will worth it. Redondo is on my bucket list.
And that's not even the longest wait commission from that show, but hey, being patient often leads to better pieces! And he should be; amazingly friendly person, too, by the way!
Great use of the screen tone to make Nightwing have such a trained and solid physique. He's got an gymnast's body with his acrobatic and crime fighting background.
It works really well with that kind of atypical pose. Bruno could have just drawn him in a "one in a dozen" superhero pose, but chose to go for that dynamic movement, with Nightwing performing some action. It's as you say so well: it truly fits his character as a gymnast. No corners were cut here, for sure!
I gotta get a piecey Bruno scene! This is awesome. Great face, love the screen tone touch. Congrats!
You really, really should! He's super nice, too! But don't wait too long, as his prices have been going up & up with all those Eisner's!
Great Piece...a shame that digital holds you back for the original. Disclaimer...I'm a ink stained trad art guy
Thanks, CJ! I've come to *somewhat* rethink my horror of digital. I bought one of his artist proof pages of his "Nightwing" run. But I'll always, always love to see smudges of ink & pencil lines on my pages.
I'm obviously a big fan —with a lot of the consequential covers and title page monoprints from Bruno's work on Nightwing in my collection (and given their own wall for display), and the commission I was able to get (a full 11x17 in. Tribute to the cover of Daredevil #181 with Nightwing as DD, Batgirl as Elektra, and Joker as Bullseye) is one of my favorite pieces.
That's nice. Great collection, Matt!
