Description

In the 1980s, Marvel and DC began returning pages to the artists. But how to split them between the penciler and inker? The 22 pages were turned upside down, and the editor blindly divided them into one pile of 14 (for the penciler) and one pile of 8 (for the inker). In this case, randomization split the page 2-3 DPS between the two artists, a fact that seems to have gone unnoticed at the time.

At some point Villamonte sold page 3, and I bought it at auction in 2022. I met Isherwood at Heroes Con 2023 and inquired after page 2. Sure enough, he had both pages 1-2 at home, so I purchased them from him at Knoxville Fanboy Expo 2023. 40 year old pages rarely get brought back together like this, so I'm glad to have the whole opening sequence depicting the aftermath of a pirate slaughter.

Like Jackson Guice before him, Geof Isherwood gave special attention to making pirate captain Raader look good, with a terrifically vivid look on her face as she surveys the massacred bodies.
