DescriptionI was raised on Star Trek - the original series (also a HUGE Next Generation fan). Byrne is a big Trekkie too. You can see his love for the series in his Star Trek work. To me, this is some of his best post-80's work. The stories are all great, and most of the artwork is top notch. If you are a Byrne fan and a Trek fan, I highly recommend IDW's John Byrne Star Trek collection. It's awesome. p.s. - I added the word balloons myself.Side note - when I was a kid, my family went to a comic book convention in NY - specifically to see the original cast. I believe they were all there! There was a room set up to look like the bridge of the Enterprise, and each cast member came out, one at a time. James Doohan played the bagpipes, Nimoy read a passage from his book "I am not Spock". DeForest Kelley explained how he discovered the show. Finally, Shatner came out and started talking - he invited a kid up to sit in the captain's chair (I wished it was me). As he was standing there talking, someone got up and threw a cream pie in his face!! The crowd sort of rushed to grab this guy, and Shatner, sensing this guy was about to be torn apart, claimed that he had put the guy up to it (which I didn't believe). The truth is stranger than fiction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afv76yJ7nu0 Social/Sharing |

Aww man, I thought I was going to see the pie faced Shatner in the video. Good Byrne art here. You can tell he was inspired to add a bit of comedy like how they did in the original series.

I was hoping to see it too when I searched youtube! But it was probably the same year as that video.

Thanks Duke! Byrne's storytelling skills never declined - and I think they got better over time. I really love the body language all over this page.
