Description

First off, I apologize for the poor quality of the photograph. This watercolor by Peter de Sève is framed, and try as I might, I cannot get a decent photo of it without major glare. So this will have to suffice. But the illustration...it is simply incredible! That man can make watercolor, pencil and ink breathe. The depth of character, the richness of color, and the flat-out liveliness of his mark-marking is really something to behold in person. This illustration was done as a book cover for "A Treasury of Great American Scandals", written by Michael Farquhar and published in 2003. The printed cover is pictured in the additional images.

This was a lucky find for me. Lucky in that de Sève's signature is not easy to discern. Either your recognize it and/or his style, or you don't. Luckily for me I did.

I would presume that's the mistress wiping the sweat off his brow. Real fun caricature piece in this painted illustration showing nervous guilt.
