DescriptionThe actor Georges has just had a dinner invitation rejected by his co-star Berthe, while the prima donna's personal assistant Valentina runs an annoying errand and stumbles onto the stage, which Dotti renders beautifully. "Berthe! Berthe! Bah! I'll go for a walk on my own, then! Here we are in Kampa, close to downtown! Which way out of this labyrinth?" (Kampa is an island in central Prague) "There's a telephone in every room, but that witch sent me out with the excuse of wanting some green tea bath salts right away! otherwise she won't sleep, she says! Clearly it's an excuse! She wants to phone Mr. Lost without me listening from the connecting room! And now, where do I find bath salts? Maybe there's one of those creepy valets here... Oh!" (She explores the empty theatre.) "The theater, here's the theater! Extraordinary! Surely it dates back to the eighteenth century! Why isn't it mentioned in my Prague guide? The scenery for the first act is already on stage, Mr. Luther's tavern, The Nuremberg Barrel.” (She sings the opera in French) "Whether I am a Muse or a fairy, I will save his heart from this mocking demon who wears it as a trophy, like a jewel..." These lines are sung by The Muse, the personification of poetry who wishes Hoffmann to pay more attention to his craft and less to his women and his booze. Social/Sharing |

The setting is just a great playground for Dotti's illustrative skills and direction of photography! They get the most out of the tension created by the shadows and different camera angles where there are some choices allow for something scary to pop out the side.
