Description

This was a spot illustration I fell in love with looking through an amazing stack of artwork by Mike Mignola from his personal collection.

This was a piece that wasn't published as he didn't think it would read like the one that was eventually published. I, of course, begged to differ.

Mignola gets Holmes mysteries and distills it into his vision. The cards are used to add levels of depth into the illustration and the statue comes perpendicular to Holmes' haunched back creating more interest and curiosity while maximizing use of space in the composition.
