Description
Here is page 11 from the 1981 issue #19 of ROM drawn by Sal Buscema. I’ve been looking for a ROM page and a Sal Buscema page and this particular one fit both categories nicely. It features some nice images of ROM and especially of a Dire Wraith and some extra dimensional monsters. It does have my biggest pet peeve of signed Sal Buscema pages with his signature right in the middle of the page but I can learn to overlook it.

Yes, the Dire Wraiths always look very cool.

Creature design is a complete opposite to ROM's sleek design to let you know they sure aren't the good guys!  Sal's signature kind of fits in the grand design of the page.

I'd admit his signature is not as intrusive as a Stan Lee one but I'd rather not have it in the artwork at all.

The final issue where Sal was inking himself; the end of an era,   But also the beginning of a time when the look of the book became much more polished, improving the title immensely, IMO.

Yes, I was a bit surprised to find out Sal Buscema did the inking as well as the pencils when looking up the credits for this issue.

That last panel's great!  Also like the storytelling beats with the wraith telling Rom science was limited, so on to sorcery.  Reminds me of Dr Doom saying the same thing in the FF arc "Unthinkable" :)  And yeah, I don't prefer the SB signature in the page but placement hear ain't bad.  Congrats!

Thanks, K-Gear!  It is always great when sorcery and science come in conflict in literature especially when monsters are featured!

Beauty. You scored yourself some sexy, pulsating, gyrating dire wraiths there.

And as the last piece of clothing fell to the floor
The police were yelling out for more!
On a Saturday night in nineteen twenty-four
On a Saturday night in nineteen twenty-four

This looks good in your collection. :) Great piece that I dig, as you know. Sal's work is the best when he lets his weird dude loose, imo. Romtastic!

I love Rom's eyes. They're alive! They are bursting with electricity and feeling. Beautiful!

Sal's style was becoming a lot looser in that period, inking directly over blue pencil. That was very effective for making the dire wraiths seem even more smokey and uncertain in form. The lines for Rom are crisp in comparison. Lots of movement on this great page.
