DescriptionI believe that this is the first piece of original art that I ever bought. It was the summer of 1993 and Image/Valiant were super hot properties. At the time I used to pick up mid grade Silver Age comics for a quarter! While I was at a local comic book show, there was this old guy with a table of really old stuff. Like Golden Age comics and books about movies from the Silent Era. Included in his stuff was a stack of mostly twice up original art. At the time I didn't know anything about OA; like what was a good price or even that I really wanted to collect it. I was a clueless teenager! But I saw that this page was from an issue of Weird Fantasy and at the time I thought that the Gladstone reprints were pretty cool. So I consulted my father for advice. This was a mistake that I would continue to make for the next five years or so. He said that if I bought it, I'd NEVER be able to resell it. That their would NEVER BE A MARKET for such things and that if I bought it, that money would be gone forever! So this made me pause and really debate about this for a while. As you can see in picture 3, the old man made a note that there were THREE other pages he had from this story! I think I could only find two of them and I could tell that this wasn't going to be a complete story even if I could find all three. So I ended up just buying this one page; telling myself that I go to all these shows, I'm sure he'll be at the next one. Not only did i never see him ever again, but shortly later the bowling alley this show was held at was demolished so a used car lot could be put there. It all almost sounds like an EC story in itself except that as far as I know the page is not cursed and no one died a gruesome death only to come back as a rotting corpse to exact revenge. Beautiful page made even better that this was your first OA purchase.
Kamen originals are now held in the high esteem they always should have been. You have a gem here.
Thanks for sharing this art and your story of when it was acquired!

Inspired Benjamin Button for sure! He better start smoking, drinking, and doing lotd of drugs to age his body up. Even if it doesn't work, at least he'll have a great time growing young. Getting one piece is better than getting none. Pretty fun pre code art and there's always fascination with art pieces older than ourselves even if there's no nostalgia tied to it.
