Description
This is another first for me. Apologies for not chronicling the pencil stage, but here we are at the ink stage of my first rendition of The Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Stephen Strange. I've gone with the recent design of his suit by Alex Ross, hence the pattern extending down his sleeves. As for his face, initially I tried my hand at Benedict Cumberbatch-esque nuances. However, I decided instead to go with Vincent Price as the facial reference. When you think about it, Strange has always resembled Price, which I think may have been Steve Ditko's reference when he designed him in the 60's. I've also tried some subtle tricks when inking the Sanctum Sanctorum's window behind Strange. To convey a sense of it projecting outwards, I used a nearly-dried out Micron Brush tip along the edges of the frame. Since this will be in color, I used a Micron 01 Sepia tip for the red parts of the cape set against the light behind him, and a Prismacolor soft lead Burnt ochre for the yellow trim. It's my hope to have this colored and up for sale in the new year, so please watch out for it. More as it develops.
