Red Sonja 2023

Every two years Lucas draws a Red Sonja as a way to compare how his style has changed over time. I already owned 2 of the 3 pieces he drew, so I offered to commission his next one after purchasing the 3rd piece in 2021.

For this work he was thinking a battle scene to evolve past a pin-up composition. Inspired by Frank Cho and Frazetta he came up with this beautiful and dynamic fight scene. I suggested she fight Amazons because who doesn't like female warriors? I also suggested turning the head of the fighter in the foreground, as a homage to Gary Kwapisz from SSOC. Her "oh crap" face is priceless!
