Description

I met Stephen at Dragon Con 2021 where he was the first entry in my first X-Men sketchbook. After getting a great Nightcrawler to kick off the book, I realized Stephen would be a perfect artist for my X-Men cover recreation project.

After chatting about it, he was interested in doing one and it was just a matter of timing for his list to open.

While waiting for that to happen, Stephen just continued to level up his work quality over the past few years, especially in conveying dynamic action in his art.

Arriving in 2023, after chatting with Stephen at HeroesCon, the UXM #213 cover came up as his favorite. Surprisingly, despite Alan Davis being my favorite artist, this cover wasn't on my list. That said, given how passionate Stephen was about the cover, I had to include it among the choices provided when Stephen's list opened up during the late Summer.

I'm so glad I did, as Stephen thoroughly exceeeded expectations, creating a killer piece, true to the original, but with so many added touches of his own - the added blood spatter effects, putting Wolvie's claw through Sabretooth's hand, as well as clawing Sabertooth's face, which looks even more menacing than the original cover, the extended use of zipatone to effect the lighting, and the nod to his friend, Tradd Moore, by using Silver Surfer Black in the corner box.

Just an excellent piece of work all around, another example of success when gearing a commission request to what will get an artist excited, and being patient & ready for when it may take some time for an artist's list to open up.

An incredible way to close out the Class of 2023 additions to my X-Men cover recreations project, thanks so much to Stephen for his great work and Felix Lu for his assistance in facilitating the commission.

No way a straight up recreation could to what Davis did, so Green probably went to a darkness retreat with that Silver Surfer in the corner box and Aaron Rodgers. He emerged resolved to make this recreation even more bloody and viscious!

What can be said that doesn't just slap you in the face when you see this? Stunningly finished - Felix MUST be thinking of collecting these recreations into an art book!

Spectacular recreation of Uncanny X-Men #213 by the amazing Stephen Green! I love the emotion this cover evokes. Stephen really captures the spirit of the original but then adds a little something of his own. The use of red here really adds something to the piece! Fabulous commission, congrats!

Wow, this is an intense recreation cover from a favorite UCX issue. The gory details are great, the closer you look, the more gruesome it is. Congrats!
