Description

As a sequential storyteller, Yale is one of the best around. But it’s been a real treat to see him flex slightly different muscles in these single-image Mini Mondays of the gang.

The amount of thought he puts into his portrayal of these characters has always impressed me, and you get a glimpse into how he views each of them in this delightful vignette of the gang in the woods.

Hal, the brave explorer (and perhaps a bit of a rabble rouser), pulls up the frog for all to see.

Karen, the excitable one, freaking out at the sight of the gross frog.

Diana, her stoic best friend, surprised but nonplussed about the whole thing.

Barry, the impatient speedster, with a look of befuddlement on his face as he can’t figure out what he’s feeling.

J’onn, the alien visitor who finds wonder in the everyday.

Bruce, the tempestuous one, quick to anger and protect his crush, Karen.

And then, of course, there’s Clark, the level-headed mediator and protector.

That there is so much going on for each of them in this image, while still telling a complete whole, is a testament to the Yale’s consummate storytelling acumen. And it doesn’t hurt that J’onn on the log gives me Calvin & Hobbes vibes.

I really don't know why I didn't pick something up from Yale when I had the chance. These are all so good. I need to make it a point to get something from him next year.
