Vooda 21 Splash Page - NSF!

Shown here is what WAS the splash page to the 7-page story "The Trek of Danger!" that appeared in Vooda 21 (cover date June 1955). I am then showing what was done to that page... and the rest of the story. SO make sure you look at the additional images.

Vooda was a typical 1950s Jungle Girl/Princess who protected the coast of the African Congo from all types of dangers. Like all that came before, she was a beautiful, strong white woman who tried to give hope to the native people despite great odds. The series only lasted for three issues in her magazine.

As you can see from the published page, she would swing through the jungle dressed in a sarong. That does seem difficult enough... so the original owner whited out all of her clothing and had her swinging through the trees nude.

I show this primarily because the same person did this to other old Fiction House art; i.e., whiting out the clothes on the female lead character and depicting them as nude throughout the story. A Fiction House story featuring Futura sold this past week at Heritage and I am showing this as another example.

When I saw the Enrico Bagnoli "Futura" story from Planet Comics #51 listed, I was pleased to see Heritage comment that "it is frankly a disgrace that his grand work, here, should have been subjected to an amateurish job of vandalism -- that is, sloppy post-publication retouching, to remove the clothing from the leading character, known as Futura. (The defacements appear without attribution, of course. Fiction House would have allowed no such overabundance of nudity.)"

And then it sold for $6600. Who can figure??
