After the independent shows "Think Like Amano" and "Hero", Amano began finding gallery representation. Leo Koenig was the first New York gallery to showcase Amano's fine arts. For this new chapter in his career, he turned to his animation days at Tatsunoko Production.

Doronjo is a femme fatale type, who commanded her henchmen in various villainous hijinks. Amano was responsible for many of the character designs from "Time Bokan", including Doronjo. Jessie and James from the Pokemon series are suspected to have been inspired by her "Doronbo Gang". Shigeru Miyamoto from Nintendo refused to allow Wario and Waluigi to have a female counterpart, suggesting the idea would too close to this pre-existing trope.
