Description

Dragon Con 2023 was a great opportunity to get sketchbook pieces done, but sometimes an opportunity comes up that you weren't expecting and exceeds your expectations.

I was chatting with Sanford a bit early in the show and we started talking about what I was chasing at the show and I mentioned I was doing sketchbooks. When he asked "what kind of sketchbooks?", my ears picked up sensing an opportunity and made my pitch...

X-Men Sketchbooks and I had an X-Men Villains sketchbook mapped out and ready to go, but nobody in yet.

Chatting a bit further, we set it all up and Sanford kindly agreed to open the book with the X-Men's most menacing villain of all, Magneto, rendering him in excellent fashion.

More to come from this book, but if you're going to start a sketchbook, start with a banger. Thanks to Sanford for doing just that.

There was sketching in the book that night
The art was right, Magneto
He was sitting there for you and me
It's Sanford Greene's Magneto
Though I never thought that we could lose

What a way to open up that sketchbook and the start of the X-Men villains portfolio! And based on how this looks I think Sanford definitely wanted to make an impact as the opening artist. Great watercolors and I love the eye glint. Awesome. Congrats!
