Description
This is the principal artwork for the Salomé movie produced in Italy by Cannon in 1986. Unfortunately however the artist appears to be unknown. Having recently acquired this fine piece of Italian movie poster artwork, I’d much appreciate a pointer in the direction of a a likely artist if anyone might have any idea who that might be. (50x35cm)
Whoever the artist is, the illustration is first class and particularly the foreshortened torso of Salome, seen here at the conclusion of her seductive dance of the seven veils. Her figure is superbly rendered and based on a studio still of the scene featuring the statuesque Salomé played and danced by Jo Champa. The film script is based on Oscar Wilde’s once controversial French play, Salomé, published in English in 1894 with the famous illustrations by Aubrey Beardsley. There is a twist in this adaption since the scenes take place during the Second World War under the eyes of Nazis.
The additional illustrations show the artwork used as the basis for both the full sized poster and DVD cover and elsewhere.
