Guardians of the Galaxy Issue #09 Pg. 05 (ft. Jack Flag, Peter Quill)

This page might not look like much at first glance, but it is an awesome page to have collected. I have been trying to collect first, or close to first meetings of Guardians of the Galaxy with Star-Lord. This might not be the first page with the two of them together, but it is the first time Star-Lord officially meets Jack Flag. Who is Jack Flag you might ask… He just so happens to be another member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Another funny feature of this page is that Star-Lord is half naked. I am sure we have all seen half naked women in Marvel comics before, but how often has Marvel had a half-naked man? That and there is censored cussing in the dialogue. Leave it to the Guardians of the Galaxy to break all of the social norms for Marvel.

I am currently unsure of the inker since there are multiple inkers listed for this issue. However, I am thinking this is Victor Olazaba’s inks as Brad and Victor often worked together throughout this seriesand it looks quite similar. If anyone else knows for certain, please feel free to let me know.

I figured this page needed some humor to match the tone of the page and I feel like it goes perfect with a drunk girl singing. Men usually pop into scenes naked for one of two reasons. Romance, or being drunk as hell. The real story just so happens to be the rare third option. Evil ruler steals clothes to prevent you from doing anything funny, while stringing you out on a leash. Not far off from the Leia scene with Jabba.
