Description
This piece is so awesome! I remember seeing this under an auction preview and I instantly connected with it. When it came time for auction, I made sure not to miss it. I must have missed posting it on Christmas last year as it was still pending to be posted. However, in the spirit of hanging lights up at the house this weekend and today being the first of December, I think it is only proper to post it.

My daughters love the Grinch, and they even had a phase where they tried watching him all year long. As a kid, I remember my parents shopping around trying to get a Grinch Hallmark ornament. The only collectable Hallmark ornament I ever remembered them going after.

Virgil Ross was not an animator for the original Grinch cartoon from my understanding, but he had a very significant animation career. One of the works he is noted to have animated for was a 1982 short called “The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hat”. However, this animation cell was created as a collector's piece from my understanding for the Warner Bros. store circa the 1990’s. Additional notation from the auction is as follows:

Great depiction of Dr. Seuss' classic Grinch by Ross, one of the great Warner Brothers animators. Ross, who lived into his 80s and retained all of his artistic abilities, created a series of drawings recreating famous scenes from cartoons he worked on to be sold as part of the 'Master's Collection' through the Warner Bros. Stores. Colored pencils on animation paper. Art is in excellent condition. Signed by Ross.

It's the perfect time of year
Whoville's hideaway from here
I feel fine enough, with Suess
Considering everything's Christmas
There's ornaments down the street
Where Saintly people like to meet
I could talk, but I'll bid live
It's colder than it looks outside

Like a dream you try to remember but it's gone
(Grinch me) Then you draw in green but it only comes out as a Ross
(I'm still asleep) When you try to see the world, beyond your front door
(Please God) Karloff's time, is the way I rhyme gonna make you smile
(Tell me) When you realize that a guy that prized might take a while
(I'm still asleep) Just to try to figure out what all this art's for

Love this depiction of the Grinch!  His expression is perfect, as is his pose.

As soon as December rolls around, I start playing Christmas songs on the piano, and "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" is one of my favorites.  The lyrics are hilarious with delightfully vile descriptions of the green Scrooge, made even more sinister by the bass voice of Thurl Arthur Ravenscroft, who (fun fact) also voiced Frosted Flakes’ Tony the Tiger for 50 years!

This artwork is "GRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!
