L’autrice crebbe in Cina e considerava il cinese la propria lingua madre, successivamente, nel 1938, fu la prima donna americana a vincere il Nobel per la letteratura.

The author grew up in China and considered Chinese her mother tongue, subsequently, in 1938, she was the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.
