Spaceman #1 pg 4

There are two choices when looking for an example from Azzarello and Risso’s Spaceman. The main story taking place down on Earth or a flashback page on Mars.

Where Eduardo is involved, you can’t go wrong with either. However, I chose the Mars route because those pages offered Eduardo a chance to demonstrate his mastery of storytelling without relying on his usual high contrast style.

This one, in particular, really grabbed my attention thanks to the great worm’s eye camera angle in panel one and the closeup of the cracked helmet in panel two. Then Eduardo pulls back to a long shot from above to emphasize how alone he is in the wind storm before closing on his hand reaching for the safety just in front of him.

It’s storytelling perfection in my book, and a great reminder of just how lucky we all are to have someone of Eduardo’s talent working in this industry we love.
