DescriptionSteve Ditko and Frank McLaughlin team on page 6 from Captain Atom #89 (Charlton, 1967). This is from the last issue of this run and has a talking cat from the future (Faustus) so earns a spot in this gallery. Twice up Ditko! When ASM got too expensive, I thought Creeper but when I saw this twice up Ditko with the talking cat - I remembered missing another page from this story and decided if it wasn't nuts I would bring it home! I feel Steve must have liked cats - my Speedball page also has a cat.... Finally, Captain Atom was the inspiration/model for Dr. Manhattan! Social/Sharing |

He must like that hair style too as we saw it for Flash Thompson, The Creeper, and now here for Captain Atom!

How fabulous to have a twice-up Steve Ditko page! This really is a terrific page by the master. Those three top panels are dynamite--I love the way Captain Atom is portrayed in a medium shot, a close up and then a long shot. And the fact that his body is spinning from frame to frame really makes the scene interesting. That final panel is very interesting as well, with the evil guy watching our hero in the crystal ball and discussing how they're playing a game of cat and mouse--with a talking cat! Crazy cool page from one the masters of comic book art!
