The amazing close-up with a great use of reflection that was used on the published cover that Adams drew was one of the truly great covers of that era —which is the only reason that something as awesome as this went unpublished. And it's clear that a lot more time went into this than what was published. They should have at least run this as a centerfold.

The cover they used is pretty iconic but I agree with your sentiments.

The idea of not using any Art Adams cover seems almost sacrilegious. That being said, as a collector, unused covers are a great way to buy a masterpiece for a lot less money. And this is an incredible gem, congrats!

Just love these early 80s examples. You could really see what was coming here. A superstar in the making. Love it!

Inspired work! Art Adams was following George Perez's covers in the previous issues, so you know he brought the heat here!

Dear Marvel
How did you not use this cover?
The detail is amazing.

His 2000s work may be more polished, but it's this era where we feel the most love and enthusiasm. Great great piece.

Great pickup! I was admiring this on eBay for a while. It's crazy that they never used this as a cover or at least a pinup.

I was surprised it lasted as long as it did. Glad I pulled the trigger before anyone else.

Congrats Steve! I've been following this since it's recent debut on eBay. If my income were different I'd have been all over it. I love all of Arthur's work, but seeing the early stuff is always a treat. What a great treasure to have exhumed and out in public. Enjoy it. An awesome early work for sure!

I haven't traditionally bought a lot of art off of eBay but this was definitely a standout for me. I'm told by the seller that after he marked it sold that he had a ton of inquiries so I guess I'm glad I pulled the trigger when I did

Impressive early work by Arthur Adams. Hard to believe it wasn't published. Adams obviously put a lot of work into this piece--The level of detail is insane. The detail on the front female warrior is fantastic--she's wearing an exotic helmet and chain mail armor while the other female appears to be wearing only animal skins. The Arena behind them is also intensely detailed, with pipes and metal plating, huge metal machines and a tall metal tower, suggesting a post-apocalyptic era. Then there are the warriors watching the combatents, who appear to be cast members from a Road Warrior movie. It's a fantastic piece of work and it's a shame it wasn't published. Unbelievably cool pick-up, congrats!

It's from Perez's Black Widow storylineinnFanfare. The character on the right is the Black Widow and the other one is the villain from this issue, Snapdragon.
