Description
My first exposure to Namor was when he was an Avenger in the 80s … I was pretty fond of the character in those books so when he was getting his own series in 1990 I was all over it.. and it did not hurt that it was the brain child of one of my favorite creators John Byrne! Since I’ve been collecting OA I have wanted a good example from this series (actually had a decent one for a time but had to sacrifice it towards a bigger fish lol). So when I saw this one on Jim Wardens wall a while back , I was definitely intrigued . The reason being if you were reading this storyline live this title splash was a shocking site! It really kind of stuck out in my memories of this comic. I’ll admit I did talk myself out of it not once but twice! At first I couldn’t get bast the back of our protagonist.. that’s usually a mark against a page. But it was stuck in my mind… and luckily it wasn’t sold. Jim worked with me and I was able to make it happen!

Btw as a John Byrne fan.. how much better can you get then a page written , penciled, inked and even lettered by him!! Very happy with this one and will get on the wall ! Oh.. and I think I’m addicted to title pages!

Another sweet title splash add, brutha!  Gotta love that title paired with what we're looking at here :)  Also, cool blinds and floor effect as well.  Adds to the overall drama, as if it was needed!  Congrats!

Great with the patterns and grids all over the place like a cage that traps Namor.  It gives off a claustrophobic feel when combined with the shocking nature of the story.  It's already broken the spirit of the woman on the floor.

Great Neptune's Trident that's a cool Byrne Namor splash, and loved the series, congrats!

A wall of all title pages would look mighty nice. All Byrne title pages, evene better. Go for it!

this page is like a metaphor for collecting / wall hanging in the hobby within itself! nice title page for sure and I also personally enjoy when a single creator does essentially every aspect on the page

That floor would make me nauseous... but I don't expect the wall of heads designer to have the best taste. Great pick up!

I think I worked in an office in the early 90s with the same design on the carpet lol

Skull Orchard, sounds like a Metal Band from the 1980s, but I like it. Also quite fitting for the page as well, how can you not love a title page like this one

Very, very nice. I think Byrne did some of his best work on Namor.

I've let lots of pages that I thought "weren't perfect" for one reason or another slip through my grasp, only to regret it later. Cheers on seizing the opportunity to get a very striking Byrne splash.

Bold image that screams to turn the page - what a good opening title page should do. Congrats and good luck on your unstoppable march toward collecting title pages!

Great find, a wonderful addition to the collection and a title page from Byrne nonetheless.
