20x30" Crescent Illustrator's Board features mixed media original art for front cover of box for VHS release of The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones: The Phantom Train Of Doom. The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones was a series of made-for-television films based on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV show, both starring Sean Patrick Flanery in the title role. The tenth film in The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones, it saw Indiana Jones lead a band of elderly commandos across war-torn Africa in search of powerful, train-borne weapon. Art was created by noted entertainment illustrator Mike Butkus, who provided art for many Young Indiana Jones home media releases. While Indiana Jones movie poster artist Drew Struzan provided art for The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Butkus was brought in as his style was rather similar to the detailed, yet stylized Struzan style Indiana Jones fans had come to expect, w/images of Flanery along w/co-star Tom Bell as Colonel Paul von Lettow-Vorbeck. A group of African warriors charge above image of the train, which bears an immense railway gun. Of note, Drew Struzan also created art for this release (see previous lot), which was not used. The art offered in this lot was used for the final VHS release, which saw Butkus create very similar-looking art, w/some notable differences. Particularly, the board features full art whereas Struzan's art was depicted in a panel. Butkus also tamed Indy's hair some and changed his eyes slightly (as noted on included but detached acetate overlay). There are very slight size differences w/the other figures and less of the African warriors' legs are shown. Art features beautiful use of color and is unsigned. Exc. Of note, art is considerably more extensive than seen on VHS box (an example is included in this lot), which cropped some amazing detail seen in the original art by Butkus.
