“A-OK, Uriaga. Something in the backpack stopped the bullet. We have to shelter behind those rocks so we can respond to their shots!”
“Okay, you go first. I've got you covered.”
“Damnation! That devil gringo has luck on his side. And old Jefe is taking advantage of it to take cover.”
"Jefe" as used here is a technical term, indicating Uriaga's "kingpin" rank in the criminal organization from which he is defecting. "Damnation" is in Spanish rather than Italian, for local flavor.
