Description
I know I know booo Color Guides! But this one is so much fun I couldn’t resist… there is the obvious here… Joe Chiodo fully painted over Adam Hughes of a giant Phoenix! That’s a win to begin with… but the extra fun here is what I have to assume is Joe Chiodo poking some fun at Adam Hughes speed,,, check out the “added “ cyclops dialogue lol.. I get a kick out of these types of things collecting OA (which you don’t see collecting modern!

That's hilarious! I have a few Chiodo color guides from this issue too, but without the jokes!

I shared mine with Adam at Heroes con, and he really enjoyed looking over his old pencils , and the old school coloring. He then had me show them to Laura Martin (who apprenticed under Joe at wildstorm), and she got a kick out of them too. They both recognized Joe's coloring based off his technique (and color choices).

It's really a lost art, but Joe, Laura, and Steve Oliff all still offer traditional coloring, if you see them

Cool gag, but the handwriting almost looks like Adam's based on his commissions at the time (and it sorta matches the note on the left, which was almost certainly from Adam).

Cool! I was guessing.. but like your detective work! I'll ask Adam if I see him at a show!

Not booo color guides, this is a fun piece.   It's part of some amazing history.  Congrats!
