Description
Birds of Prey #80 Page 11

Pencils and Inks by Ed Benes

This is another page from the last issue of Birds of Prey that Ed worked on (at least this run of it), in the issue before this one, Huntress and Canary were engaging Thorn in a motorcycle chase throughout Metropolis that ended with Thorn getting shot by the Metropolis Police and needing to be hospitalized. Canary and Huntress, feeling partly responsible for this, decide to wait at the Hospital outside of Thorn's room to make sure she's ok. Alongside them however are a horde of Metropolis Police Officers who want the Birds of Prey to leave, stating that they may be bigshots in Gotham, but in Metropolis they'll be treated just like anyone else. Dinah counters by showing the officer her phone contacts list, with Superman being right at the top. This works and the officer stands down and mutters that this isn't over.

Eventually Huntress and Canary go on a coffee break and run into the detective in charge of the case Thorne was involved in. At first Canary thinks the detective wants them to go away too, but she asserts that they're only there to make sure Thorne is ok and that he can check her references with the other officer she showed her phone to. The Detective replies "What other officers?" and points to Thorne's room where all the cops have suddenly disappeared. This is when they realize that the cops are dirty and were sent to kidnap Thorne, and we get to this page where Huntress and Canary run into the hospital staircase and see the cops attempting to escape with Thorne, however they're too far away and Dinah decides that the only way to catch up to them will be to jump down!

Remarkable Benes art!  Even without tying to be, Benes brings her athleticism and beauty shine in these well chosen camera angles.
