Arthur Adams, Mike Mignola, and Al Gordon X-Men Annual #9 Story Pages 5 & 6 Original Art (Marvel, 1985). First appearance of Rachel Summers as Phoenix! Daughter of Scott Summers and Jean Grey from an alternate future, Rachel appears for the very first time wearing her new costume after vowing to remember her mother and taking the name of Phoenix, as the X-men (Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Rogue, Cyclops, Shadowcat [Kitty Pryde], and Colossus) prepare to travel to Asgard to find Storm and the New Mutants. A great sequence showing nearly all of the X-Men (except Storm) and even Madelyne Pryor (Summers) with Lockheed the Dragon! The credits for this issue from the "Asgardian War" storyline note that the pencils are by Adams with inks by Mignola, Gordon, and Adams. Created in ink over graphite and blue pencil on Bristol board with image areas of 10" x 15". Slight toning, darker on Page 6, production trimmed top edge and corners, tape abrasions on the top/bottom edges, tear on the bottom edge and text correction paste-ups in Panels 5-6 on Page 6, marginal/editorial notes and whiteout corrections, tape cover-up in the margins, with light staining and smudging/handling wear. Doodles in the margins and signed by Adams at the bottom of Page 6. In Very Good condition.

These Marvel annuals were made into big events worth the extra cover price and page count with the Arthur Adams artwork! X-Men and all of the mutants were made even more special as a flagship title that put hot artists that kept them fashionably with the times!
