Captain America: Living Legend Prelim 01

When I found out that my BFF's three-year-old son was a Captain America fan, immediately I thought that would make the perfect birthday gift in September. So here I am with the good draft of ol' stars and stripes in his element: World War II. I've even gone so far as research different vehicles used in the 1940s for the tank and the soon-to-be rendered plane. By keeping everything in the background in silhouette against what I will either render as a sunset or cloudy night sky, the focus is squarely on Captain America himself. Etched on 11 x 14" Canson Mixed Media, I have Steve Rogers backed into a corner thrusting his mighty shield at a target off camera. I've also played with some negative space effects to make the searchlight that spotted him pop off the page. With a 3H graphite pencil I've also started to etch out debris around Cap to give off that boxed in feeling. It's been tricky using the S curve to round out the details on the shield but with luck I should have it soon. More as it develops.
