Description
Les 7 vies de l'epervier

By André Juillard & Patrick Cothias

It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of the great artist André Juillard.

Here is a magnificent art from his great period.

The page has three protagonists: Ariane de Troïl, the Sparrowhawk and, above all, the Haute-Auvergne region. The 2 authors set the action in the Cantal department. Haute-Auvergne has been magnificently rendered in the story.

Like Hermann or Giraud, Juillard was able to depict landscapes and horses masterfully. The proportions are always just right, and the extraordinary poses are a feast for the eyes.

The intersecting destinies of a family from the Auvergne nobility and members of the royal family at the beginning of the 17th century, at the end of the reign of King Henri IV, are a formidable blend of adventure and history. The first seven parts of this great story are rich in twists and turns, atmosphere and interesting characters, both invented and historical.

So nice they drew it twice!  I like that trailing leg of the horse in the last panel that's kind of extending an invitation to us to go along for the trip.
