DescriptionAs our heroes enter Hitler's bunker, they discuss his relationship to a German actress: “Be careful… be very careful.” “Mount Kehlstein, the Eagles’ Nest” “You may already know this, but there is another curiosity that links Princess Sissi to this place.” “Mmm... and that is?” “Do you know who Magda Schneider was?” “Romy's mother, you mean? She was also an actress, and so was her husband.” “Exactly. Magda worked with her daughter in several films, including the Sissi series...” “…where she played the mother of the empress. Yes, I know.” “I'm not surprised. But there is an anecdote that perhaps you don't know...” “There are some photos of her with Hitler at the Berghof, the Fuhrer's mountain home, not far from here. It was 1941, and Romy, who was only three years old at the time, had accompanied her. Many years later, in an interview, the actress declared that her mother had been Hitler's lover, and that that had only been the first of several meetings. It must be said that Romy made this declaration in 1976, six years before she died, when she was already a victim of alcoholism and depression. And in any case it was not unusual for the Fuhrer to receive actors and other personalities from the world of entertainment and culture who wanted to pay homage to him.” “Hmm... It's true, I didn't know about this episode, I could have mentioned it in my program. But perhaps I would have attracted the ire of those fanatics even more. Who knows what goes on in their heads? Is this the room you told me about?” “Yes, come this way.” Romy's 1976 interview with German journalist Alice Schwarzer was suppressed until 2018, many years after Romy's death. Her mother's link to Hitler contributed to the rift between the two women. I particularly like the silhouetted second panel, one of Wally Wood's strategies for "22 panels that always work!!" The snowmobile in the first panel is also lovingly rendered. Social/Sharing |

What kind of sick tyrant is so starved for attention to need approval from show business people? Seems like someone who would have an easily bruised ego.
