Description

I usually don't buy anything Shadow outside of the 1930s and 40s, but I've seen this original painting made into prints and always thought it was spectacular. Hickman knocked it out of the park with this one.

DESCRIPTION

29.25" x 35.25" wooden frame contains large and impressive oil painting on canvas depicting pulp hero
The Shadow, in a shootout while a macaw makes its exit at top left.

Art was painted by Stephen Hickman (1949-2021) and was used as the art for a Limited Edition art print.

Stephen Hickman illustrated science fiction and fantasy for four decades. Hickman's work earned him critical acclaim, including a World Science Fiction Convention Hugo Award, six Chesley Awards from the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists and two Spectrum Gold Awards. Since 1976 Hickman has illustrated over 425 covers for Ace, Baen, Ballantine, Bantam, Berkeley, Dell, Del Rey, Doubleday, Phage Press, Tor, Warren Publications and others

Wow.  I just saw a print of this piece for the first time about a month ago.  The motion conveyed in it really amazes me.  Congratulations on the amazing acquisition!

Hickman really gets the old pulp feel in there with the window frame putting focus on the Shadow, his blazing gunfire lighting up the stairway, and the strong red colors on Cranston's cape being showing dynamic movement!  They all have an aged feel with a layer of darkness from which The Shadow operates.

It's saying a lot, but I have to call this one of Hickman's best.  The rich colors are amazing.  The red in that cape is SO rich.
