DescriptionMy Neighbor Totoro Satsuki, Chibi-Totoro, and Chu Totoro Production Cel Setup with Production Background (Studio Ghibli, 1988). "That's where we planted the seeds." Satsuki and the two smaller Totoro enthusiastically will the seedlings into sprouting in this fantastic original production cel setup from the iconic Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro. The second film released after the founding of the illustrious studio, Miyazaki's Totoro debuted on April 16, 1988, as a double bill with co-founder Takahata's production of Grave of the Fireflies. Lauded for its stunning visuals and themes of environmentalism, this film has received multiple awards and is considered a milestone production for both Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. This sweet and poignant moment can be spotted near the 58:24 timestamp as Satsuki and her younger sister Mei join all three Totoro at midnight in a ceremonial dance to help their seeds sprout and grow into a monumental tree. Hand-painted to full-figures in cool nighttime tones, the trio of characters share an impressive combined image area of 10.25" x 5.25" including the seedlings on the 13.75" x 9" multilayer cel which is numbered A17 C22 in the top right. The setup is paired with a hand-painted production background, possibly from the film, which has been rendered in gouache on board trimmed to an overall size of 14" x 9.5"Social/Sharing |
