Description

Dr Loveless tells Nathan that, now that he's been exposed to Xenia and the disease she carries, he may never leave the underground Habitat. Nathan pushes back:

“Good heavens! What happened here?”

“You tell me, Doctor Loveless. Your trusty robot tried to kill me!”

“That’s impossible.”

“Harry has been acting strangely towards me tonight, too. He seemed… aggressive.”

“Hmmm… It must have been a fault with the recognition sensors. I'll alert the technicians to the problem right away and have a replacement unit sent.”

“Take your time, Doctor. In the meantime, Xenia and I are leaving.”

“Impossible, Agent Never. After compromising the quarantine of the Habitat and spending all this time in close contact with my daughter, the chances that you have been infected are very high. I cannot allow you to…”

“Don't talk nonsense! I feel great.”

“Okay. If you don't want to believe me… maybe you'll believe your colleague Sigmund Baginov.” (A hologram of Sigmund appears.)

“You ol' Pollock!”

“Listen carefully, Nathan. Doctor Loveless has contacted the Agency to inform us about your situation. You have to trust her; be patient. Once we have established your health condition, we will send a flyer to pick you up.”

“Sigmund, but don’t you…”

“No ‘buts,’ my friend. Do not leave the Habitat for any reason. Not before Dr. Loveless runs some tests. Am I clear?”

“Of course, very clear. So, tell me… Are Samantha and the kids okay?”

“Oh, sure, great.”

“What's happening to the image?”

“A magnetic storm… crrzzzzz… They happen often at this latitude… crzzzzz… losing connection… crrrzzzzz… will call you back… crrrrzzzzz… possible…”

Does anything seem fishy to you? Sigmund was apparently on standby to talk to Nathan at a moment’s notice in the middle of the night. Why not earlier, when Nathan had time to play five chess games against Xenia?

I like the hologram visual effect.

Dr Loveless feels like the Wizard of Oz in this situation/story. Not sure I'm buying this magnetic storm loss of signal stuff, it's like back when I had a flip phone and made up some crackling static sounds to get off a call...sorry I lost you, can you hear me now? I'll have to call you back

Why would it be fishy if Sigmund vouches for Doctor Loveless?  Is it AI deepfake?  Maybe Nathan now knows because Sigmund doesn't have a wife named Samantha.
