Nathan Never Maxi #16 (2018) pages 93-94: A mother's heart

On these two final pages, Nathan introduces Xenia to someone of personal importance:

“This is Carla Stevenson, your genetic donor. The DNA used to create you and the other clones comes from her.”

“I... didn't know what use they would make of it. Forgive me... if you can....”

“Are you... my mom?”

“I’m not…yes, little one. I am your mamma.”

These stories have long production cycles, and the final title is often different than the working title. In this case, the final title was "Underground Mission," but the working title was "A Mommy’s Heart" (Cuore di Mamma), referring to Carla's compassion for her dying clone. It's a brief ray of sunshine at the conclusion of a dark and poignant tale which made us sympathize with the brilliant and enthusiastic Xenia before taking away everything she had.
