DescriptionIt's Halloween again, which all of you know is my favorite time of year. So, naturally, you expect me to have some sweet piece of comic art to bring to you for the occasion. I shan't disappoint you, as I give you all a taste of some truly dark and gruesome comic book horror, created by some of the modern masters of it!Batman alone is already a dark and foreboding character, so how do you make him even more horrific? By making him into a vampire, of course. Which is exactly what we got in Batman: Bloodstorm 30 years ago. But Moench and Jones weren't content with just making Batman a true "creature of the night," as they also decided to bring Selina Kyle into the mix, making her a true "Were-Catwoman," thereby upping the horror ante, as it were. This page is a key moment for Selina, with her facing the one who transformed her into a living embodiment of her codename, as she lets her feline savagery exact her vengeance. It's certainly not a scene for the faint of heart! I've always loved the dark and macabre style of artist Kelley Jones. The palpable sense of menace in this page is intensified, by his masterful use of close-up shots and shadow. Giving you just enough to know what is happening, but never going overboard into the grotesque to get it across to you. John Beatty's dark and heavy inks only enhance the dread of the moment Jones has laid out. The first panel, with just the face of the werewolf, is practically the stuff nightmares are made of. While seeing Catwoman unleash her fury is the kind of thing that makes you keep the lights on while you sleep. And I think that the art being in black and white, only ratchets up its eerie vibes. So much so, I almost wish the book itself had been published that way. It's easy to see why many consider Kelley Jones the rightful heir to horror-master Bernie Wrightson! It's always a pleasure to see a true master of their craft at work. And when it comes to horror-styled art, there are few still living who can compete with Kelley Jones in that realm (nor few not living who can do so, either). All which makes this the perfect art update for Halloween. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do, but I'd advise you do so with the lights on. It'll be much safer for you that way. After all, you know what they say: "Never trifle with a Catwoman scorned!" Happy Halloween! Social/Sharing |

The mere mention of the Jones and Beatty team sends chills down the spine and can bring about fright, horror, knots in the stomach, anxiety, grey hairs, and sleepless nights in modern audiences and collectors.

Fantastic page.
Many people go after a KJones page, but it's Beatty's inks that make them look so beautiful. Congrats.
