Ah, Bud Blake (1918-2005). A tremendous cartoonist and wonderful man. Bud was known as a cartoonist's cartoonist, as he simply knew how to compose an image, and then sling the ink with wonderful liveliness. Anyone who knows me also knows that I am a huge fan of Bud�s work, and have written multiple blog posts about his terrific work. Offered here is a wonderful Tiger daily from November 1, 1996, my favorite period for Bud�s work. The daily features Punkinhead and Hugo, as Hugo wants to know if his latest creation looks lopsided. The drawing is quite beautiful, with Bud�s calligraphic line style combined with contrasting shapes of black and white. His spotting of blacks was always quite wonderful, as you can clearly see in this strip. Really a master class in how to create wonderful imagery in a small space. And a funny gag. The piece measures near 4�"x13�". There is a vertical mailing fold in the middle, from when Bud mailed the piece to a fan. You can also see where he signed it in the first panel, along with writing the title. Other than that, the daily strip has some minor light creases in the lower right corner of the final panel. Nothing that�s a big deal. Bud�s work has gained in popularity over the years and the originals don�t last long when I list them. $150.00 + $10.00 shipping.
