Something I passed on buying back in 2006 and regretted it. So this year when a second opportunity presented itself, I didn't hesitate.

Although it's labeled as "unpublished," to the best of my knowledge this and the prelim. are the ONLY physical art for the New Frontier Absolute Edition cover.

What became the published cvr. were likely changes made digitally to this one. Cooke closed Wonder Woman's eyes as originally rendered in the prelim. He also added more background art.

I'd seen Darwyn do this type of "tweaking" before. He'd made alterations on two cvrs. in my CAF - the Spirit #2 and Comic Book Artist #3. They're both slightly different than the published versions.

I had an opportunity to ask Darwyn at a San Diego Con whether he'd drawn an alternate CBA #3. He told me he hadn't and that added figures were cut and pasted on computer.

That's when the bulb lit up in my head about this New Frontier cvr.

According to Albert Moy who reps the Darwyn Cooke Estate, this is the only version of the collected edition cover art he's ever seen.

Great piece where Cooke made a statement for this edition to be more special! New Frontier will continue to be in print and is a celebration of all things that revived the Superhero genre in the late 50's.

Wow, what a cover. Darywn's New Frontier work was something special, and this is a cool piece of unpublished history. Congrats!
