Description

Enigma was right. Milligan was neck deep into his run on Shade and Duncan was still fairly new to the US scene. Vertigo was at it's height so I remember the book being a big deal when it was released.

I was finishing up my undergrad lit degree, so dense storytelling was my jam. But, I'd be lying to you if I tried to convince you I fully understood the series at the time. All I could say for sure is that I LOVED the art and that my newly out self appreciated the gay subtext (even in all of its early 90s awkward stage), that became central to the story by its conclusion.

I've been looking out for the right page from the series since I started collecting. So I was thrilled when this page - that nailed the theme, humor, and aesthetic of the book in one page - popped up over BritComicsArt. Joseph is always a dream to work with. And many, many thanks to my buddy, Shannon, for picking up the page when Joseph was in the U.S.

Come to think of it, I have not seen a new Geico commercial in quite a while.

Believe it or not, Enigma was the first Vertigo book I read (my entry point being Milligan) and it hit me like a ton of (weird) bricks. Just great/different comics.
