DescriptionBatman, 253 (original interior art pages finally framed)Batman 253 - iconic interior pages - November 1973 - Novick and Dick Giordano - The Batman and The Shadow. November 1973 (same month as DC's Shadow #1) 1st. Crossover in history with The Batman and The Shadow. "Who Knows what Evil--?" Batman comes face-to-face with Lamont Cranston and then of course The Shadow. Both pages came straight from the Irv Novick Family Collection! Pencils and inks by Irv Novick and Dick Giordano. Batman #253, The Shadow Story - Page 19 & 20 These are the key last two pages in the book starting with page 19, with a great Shadow image and the beginning of the meeting of the of the two iconic characters. The last page (p.20) has The Shadow & The Batman meeting for the first time in history and the Batman is saying what an inspiration The Shadow is to him, and that he's hoping that The Shadow will come out of retirement and help him in the battle against crime! Both pages go well with the great Splash page that I have framed from this story as well. I had them leave the back information open on the frame and took a picture of it. Social/Sharing |

I was going to make a joke about Lamont Cranston being the Shadow, and if Fred found out he'd have a heart attack, but I won't sink to gutter level humor when discussing such amazingly classic pages from the Bronze Age of comics. Two of the coolest characters ever, drawn by my favorite Batman artists. I owned this book, though not when it was new. I bought my first books at the 25 cent cover price. The Kaluta cover was awesome!
These pages are magnificent in the side-by-side mat and frame. A real showpiece.
Congratulations!

That closeup is awesome with the Shadow's piercing eyes! Novick and Giordano working at their peak as they must have also revered The Shadow! What a classy way to send him off!
