Description
The Snow Queen by Edmund Dulac (French, 1882-1953). Created in 1910. Gouache, pen and ink; 17 x 12". Illustration for the chapter "Second Story: A Little Boy and a Little Girl" from "The Snow Queen" published in Stories from Hans Andersen with illustrations by Edmund Dulac (London: Hodder and Stoughton, 1911), page 11. The full published caption reads "Many a Winter's night she flies through the streets and peeps in at the windows and then the ice freezes on the panes into wonderful patterns like flowers."

Wonderful theme of magic and whimsy for the holidays!  Very elegant in the slow dusting of snow and the spirit of the Snow Queen!
