Badger - Kaiju Steaks

I drew this illo in December 2024, to accompany a Mike Baron short story called "Kaiju Steaks". This story is included in an anthology, edited by writer Robert Jeschonek. In Robert's own words:

"LEGENDS OF INDIE COMICS: WORDS ONLY, (is) an anthology of prose fiction short stories featuring classic indie comics characters (from the 80s heyday mostly) as written by their creators. We have Badger, Jon Sable, The American, Cerebus, Whisper, Concrete, Flaming Carrot, and more. It's a real dream project for me, and I'm thrilled it's coming together so well."

When Mike sent his short story to me, it was of course in true Badger form: fun, zany, unpredictable, merciless to the bad guys, savior to the good people, colorful settings and happenings. Wonder why I love Baron stories and characters so much?

I immediately envisioned a few scenarios for interesting illustrations. In the end I let go of trying to be too literal to the action of the story, and went with something that came to me - still a part of the story - that seemed to make a more iconic, memorable image.
