This is one of Wayne Anderson’s wonderful illustration he created for Peter Dickinson’s 1979 book “The Flight of the Dragons”, published by Harper & Row. Titled “The Mythical Hero”, it was also reproduced in Wayne’s art book “Through the Looking Glass: the Pictures of Wayne Anderson”, published by Paper Tiger in 1992. Just a wonderful image.

It really takes you to a complete fantasy world. I always wondered if they treated the wood panel first to make it look aged for the medieval and mythical look.
