Russ Heath - Panel from 1960 All-American Men of War - Lichtenstein-Like

I'm actually not the biggest fan of Russ Heath's work, as it's a bit too clean for my liking, but I was glad to snag this piece for a couple of reasons. 1) It's from Roger Hill's collection and it's nice to have a piece from Roger's storied collection. 2) The image reminds me of some of the images that Roy Lichtenstein appropriated from Heath's work. Yes, I realize that Lichtenstein's work is a trigger for many comic book art collectors, but I see it as a part of contemporary art history, in the context of the Pop movement. Now would it have been a decent thing for Lichtenstein to give Heath something for the images he used? Yep, absolutely. But that doesn't take away from the fact that the men art tied together forever in comic book and art history.
