Description

Bad things are happening all over Castle Vlatna...

“What now? Ash is falling from the fireplace. What the heck… Aaaaahhhh!” (One of the vetala from page 105 emerges from the fireplace. Tesla kicks down the door and bursts into the room, gun ready.)

“Stay down, buddy!”

“Yyyaaggggh!”

“It… it came out of the…”

“Yeah. You're not even safe in your room. Big problem, huh, blondie?”

“Did you hear that, Hobbes? There's shooting above us. Must be my friends.”

“Are… are they shooting at monsters?”

“I guess so. It's our job.”

“Your…? Oh, heavens! Up until ten minutes ago I thought this was an amusement park… and now I don't know what to believe…”

(Kurjak pulls Hobbes back from a sudden gout of flame filling the hall.) “If you had any doubts about me, maybe this will put them to rest.”

“Aah!”

This story reminds me thematically of Dampyr #54, "The Theatre of Lost Footsteps," in which regular people, thinking they are participating in a stage production, are confronted one with one supernatural occurrence after another, leaving them constantly bewildered and frightened. One gets the impression that beings from the Other Side like messing with humans.

I predict they're going to pull the rug from under us and leave it a mystery if this was all a part of the show.

That is one damn scary Santa! Future holiday season nightmare fuel. They should've left some blood soaked cookies!

This is a very elaborate stage that Draka has set!
