DescriptionAlways been one of the greats, but Stephen Platt wasn’t on my personal collecting list until I had the honor of breaking bread with him last year at NYCC 2024. We’re part of a few social chat groups but never really connected, so it was cool to find out we’re practically neighbors back in LA. We shared a lot of passions, and our conversation reminded me that he was nothing less than one of the breakout greats of the 90s.If you asked me as a kid—Image or Valiant—I’d always say Valiant, since my love for stories triumphs over art. But if you asked me which art left an impression, it was definitely Stephen’s work on Moon Knight and Prophet. This piece showed up shortly after our chance breakfast. It wasn’t something I remembered from my time collecting the comics, but that didn’t matter—this felt like THE example to have, not just of Prophet, but the whole Youngblood team as well. Had to bid before my plane took off, so I might have overdone it, but adding a prime example of a 90s master to the collection feels well worth it. Prophet was part of the special covert Youngblood military ops team known as "Blackblood" with Die Hard, Badrock, Colonel Bravo, Chapel, Shaft, Kirby, Troll, and Knight Sabre. The team is shown here in this detailed illustration used as a nine-piece puzzle for the trading card set featuring the characters created by Rob Liefeld. Social/Sharing |

I have never seen a piece that reflects this level of testosterone.
BTW, before I wrote that, I made sure that high levels of testosterone are, in fact, associated with aggression.
Fun fact: did you know testosterone levels are 10 to 20 times higher in males than in females?

do people get the 9-piece puzzle cards graded or are they too big/complicated for that? i know that may seem like a joke but it's a serious question as a superhero card newb. Amazing Platt piece and great story about meeting him. congrats on the win, I probably would've pushed back my flight to bid live - now that's real sickness. ;-p

In an industry that relied on big events in the 90's, SPlatt was the event himself.

I remember this wel from the 90's, beautiful one by SPLATT. And Marlo Alquiza is also one of the best inker over his pencils.
