Description

Generally, my favorite artists have more cartoony styles with bold/expressive lines that lend themselves to flatter colors. More Chris Samnee or Cliff Chiang or Darwyn Cooke than Jim Lee or Marc Silvestri.

While David Finch isn't in my normal wheelhouse, I've been so impressed with the detail that he does in "quick" commissions. He seems like a sculptor who pulls the art from the page.

Around 5 mins in, I found myself wanting to tell him to stop! His initial strokes were open and clear, more my style. But I trusted the process, and watched him add his trademark detailed linework and masterful shadow. I'm so glad that I did.

Completed at OAX 2025.

Finch is great at this! The craggly lines fits for the character.
