DescriptionThe great BWS is known for his intricate details and signature facial structures. Yet, when given the space to work with space, he masterfully captures the essence of the moment. This piece captivated me the second I saw it—the simplest mood, one I relate to so deeply, a frozen place in time just before a journey begins. Conan as only BWS could do him. This page sets the pace for the story and immediately draws you in.

Those vines and thorns all over the ground just gives me goosebumps at how harsh this journey must be. Really thick inks as BWS adapts Conan into the Rune look.

Now THIS is comic art at its finest. BWS just knows how to capture that perfect moment. The calm before the storm, the anticipation before the journey, it's all right there in this splash. I love that it resonates with you so much that it became your profile pic too. That’s how/when you know a piece really speaks to you. Killer piiece, man, congrats.

The mood with this is palpable, and as you mention, it's not Machine Man insane detail. However, it's something else entirely. Congrats on another beautiful BWS!

IMHO Barry Windsor-Smith can do no wrong. This somber, moody piece is exquisitely composed and masterfully rendered. A marvelous example of BWS's massive talent.

There's a real world-weariness to this (especially for the horse). It is unexpectedly loose and jagged, and the thorny terrain is very alien. Nice BWS splash!
