Description

Bryan Langdo illustrated the lyrics of one of my favorite Harry Chapin songs and turned it into a beautiful children�s book. My stepfather introduced me first to the work of Harry Chapin when I was a child, and then gave me this book for a Christmas a few years ago.

This painting illustrates the finale of the song, after the cleaner Martin Tanner returns from an unsuccessful debut as professional singer in New York and never sings again:

�Excepting very late at night when the shop was dark and closed
He sang softly to himself as he sorted through the clothes

[O, fall on your knees]
But music was his life
[O, hear the angel voices]
It was not his livelihood, and it made him
[O, night divine, O, night]
feel so happy, and it made him feel so good He sang from his heart
[O, night divine...]
And he sang from his soul. He did not know how well he sang, it just made him whole.�

Langdo hits all the right notes to close this tale. Mr. Tanner can just sing for himself as it makes him whole just as he did in the beginning of the story.
